Green Party MSP Alison Johnstone has visited a college campus in Dalkeith to support its pioneering sustainability and clean energy projects.
Ms Johnstone, the Scottish Green Party MSP for the Lothian region, took a tour of the innovative sites and projects at the Midlothian Campus that have put Edinburgh College on the map as leaders in the field of renewable energy.
The campus boasts a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs); student-manufactured EV charging points; Scotland’s first solar meadow site, with a field of 2,560 solar panels; a hydraulics and pneumatics lab that will be used to test wave and tidal energy technology; and an eco-travel buggy.
The MSP was given a tour of the £1.2m solar meadow site, which is to be transformed into an outdoor classroom for engineering students to enhance their studies into clean energy and help them meet the needs of employers as the industry develops.
