A planning appeal committee has overturned a council decision to refuse a Dalkeith man permission to extend his newly-built house.

Richard Fryatt took his case to the Local Review Body (LRB) after planning officials turned down his bid to develop a single-storey extension at 41 Easter Langside Medway.

Refusal was on the grounds that the extension would be an overly dominant feature when viewed from properties at the rear.

The council’s senior planning officer Duncan Robertson also noted that it would result in increased overlooking of the properties below, and would have a detrimental impact on privacy.

But at a recent review meeting, elected members unanimously supported councillor Derek Milligan’s (Lab) motion to uphold the appeal.
