The future of Bonnyrigg’s empty leisure centre is set to be decided by councillors at a crunch meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
There are three choices facing elected members – to transfer ownership to the Bonnyrigg Centre Trust, to lease to Midlothian businessman Mark Perfect or to have the building demolished.
A verdict had been expected before Christmas but councillors deferred a decision to allow for further consultation.
Trust co-ordinator Darius Namdaran told the Advertiser he met with the three ward councillors and council leader ahead of the full council meeting to gauge their attitude towards the proposals.
“In principal they like the idea and can see a community need for it through various consultations.
“But the main worry is if it’s financially sustainable without the council having to bail it out,” said Mr Namdaran.
