Friends of Kieran Morrison, a former student of Lasswade High School who tragically took his own life last year, have raised £1,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) by running the Edinburgh Marathon.
In what was a poignant moment, Kieran’s dad, who had travelled all the way from Liverpool, encouraged the 13 teenagers as they crossed the finish line.
Last month, a group of Kieran’s closest friends visited Lasswade to speak to the senior students about suicide and to urge them to talk to somebody if they were feeling low or depressed.
In 2012, 4,590 men in the United Kingdom took their own lives.
The majority had not seen a GP or talked to anybody about how they were feeling.
