Mayfield and Easthouses Community Council is to apply for World War One centenary funding to revamp a local war memorial.

Chairman Robert Hogg told a recent community council meeting of plans to apply for £4,000 - £6,000 of lottery money to clean up Easthouses War Memorial, which is opposite Easthouses Miners Club on Easthouses Road.

He said: “It’s only a small war memorial down at Easthouses, but it has a lot of history. It could be doing with a clean-up.

“It’s nice enough but it would be good to get it done in time for Remembrance Day.”

If successful, the funding will be used to clean-up the stone and replace one of the wings on the angel which has broken off.
