Concerns have been raised that residents living on Co2-hit Newbyres Crescent could be left out of pocket when the street is demolished.

Worried residents attended last week’s special council meeting as councillors approved recommendations to demolish the five-year-old Gorebridge development – at a cost of up to £12 million.

At the meeting, the Labour group tabled a motion that residents living in the 64 council homes should suffer “no financial detriment” as a result of having to move out.

Council leader Owen Thompson (SNP) turned down the motion but agreed they council will “mitigate as far as possible demonstrable detriment” instead of simply covering “reasonable costs”.
