Councillors have overturned officer recommendations by approving plans for car sales on vacant land in Newtongrange.
Steven Martin’s application for the change of use of vacant land, 25metres south of 5 Newbattle Road, to form a sales area for up to 25 motor vehicles, had been recommended for refusal by planning officers.
The site, explained head of communities and economy Ian Johnson, lay at an important and prominent location at the entrance to the conservation area.
The proposed development, he said, would present a significant threat to road safety.
