Brora Rangers troll Hearts after stunning Scottish Cup win with cheeky Hibs reference

Brora Rangers had a cheeky pop at Hearts last night after knocking the Capital club out of the Scottish Cup – with a tongue-in-cheek reference to a popular Hibs song.

The Highland League side, who have barely trained in recent months and have played just one competitive game in 2021 – the club's first-round victory over East of Scotland league side Camelon back in January – were understandably in high spirits after the famous victory in the tiny Sutherland village.

In the aftermath of the 2-1 success, in the middle of buoyant dressing room videos and congratulatory messages, the club’s official Twitter account posted a photo of The Proclaimers’ song Sunshine on Leith, with the caption: “On repeat.”

The 1988 song is regularly sung by Hibs supporters after famous victories including the 2016 Scottish Cup win, 2007 League Cup success, and most Edinburgh derby victories against Hearts at Easter Road.

A particularly rousing rendition was delivered at full time after Hibs defeated their city rivals in a Scottish Cup replay en route to winning the trophy in 2016.

Brora played Hibs in the group stages of the Betfred Cup this season, going down 3-1 in Leith, but the now-deleted tweet suggests there are no hard feelings between the Cattachs and the Cabbage given that both can now boast of knocking the Tynecastle Park side out of the second oldest cup competition in association football.

Brora defeated Robbie Neilson's side 2-1, thanks to goals by Jordan Macrae and Martin McLean. They now face Stranraer on Saturday April 3 in the third round of the competition.
