Head teacher retires from Penicuik school

After almost 40 years in the teaching profession, Strathesk Primary School head Liz Barton has said farewell to pupils and staff.

Mrs Barton (60) retired at the end of term after 16 years working in Penicuik.

Six years ago Mrs Barton oversaw the merger of Eastfield with nearby Ladywood Primary and Strathesk Nursery to create Strathesk Primary School, one of Midlothian’s largest primaries with 326 pupils and 80 nursery children.

“I think the biggest thing I have brought the school is that we are not in isolation. There is a partnership now with the children, the staff, the parents and the community,” she said.
