Plans have been lodged with Midlothian Council for a housing development on the outskirts of Roslin.

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has submitted a planning application in principle for 280 to 300 properties on land previously occupied by the Roslin Institute.

A BBSRC spokesman told The Advertiser that the plans include the neighbouring Roslin BioCentre (RBC) site. This is home to a number of world-leading scientific research companies.

He added: “The site is still part occupied by the Roslin Institute, which plans to have completely vacated the site by March of this year. RBC will be on site until 2018 at least, although final departure is yet to be decided.”
