Customers of the Stair Arms Hotel in Pathhead have been praised for pulling a driver from his burning car after it crashed into another vehicle.
The fire service was called to the scene on Saturday at 7.45pm, with appliances from Dalkeith and Newcraighall.
Quick thinking guests inside the hotel rushed out to help the victims, pulling the driver from one of the blazing cars.
Three women, aged 83, 75 and 53, and two men aged 84 and 81, were all taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, none of their injuries were thought to be life-threatening.
Watch Manager Craig Thomson, Incident Commander, said: “In my opinion, had the customers of the Stair Arms Hotel not intervened and rescued the driver from one of the vehicles, the outcome would have been very different.”
