Labour councillors have questioned the need for a 17-minute council seminar on the independence debate recently.
The seminar was intended to outline the benefits of independence to Midlothian.
At the recent full council meeting Councillor Adam Montgomery (Lab), who along with his Labour colleagues did not attend the seminar, asked: “I just wondered if maybe at the next meeting we could have a report on the benefits to Midlothian put before us? For what is a big decision, 17 minutes is not a long time.”
Council leader Owen Thompson (SNP) responded: “The seminar was the opportunity to have that discussion.
“I would be delighted to have the report. But I’m not sure how that would fit in [with pre-refferendum publicity guidelines councillors had just heard] if we are asking the chief executive to produce that.”
