Assurances have been given that no unauthorised works have been made to the exterior of a former care home in Loanhead.

Concerns had been raised by immediate neighbours in recent months following the sale of Mayburn House.

Midlothian Council’s building standards officers found that the work carried out so far – removal of vegetation and trees, part demolition of a courtyard wall, and work to windows – did not require planning consent.

An inspection inside found that the work was to make the building wind and water tight. The contractor has said debris will be put in skips.
