A lottery grant of almost £10,000 will be used by a nursery in Newtongrange to improve its garden environment for pupils.
Newbattle Community Nursery on Gardiner Place is ran by volunteers and relies heavily on funding.
Nursery manager Alison Bruce explained what the National Lottery grant will go to.
She said: “We are hoping to develop our outdoor area. The move now is towards natural play. A more challenging natural environment for the children, with water features etc.
“It all ties in with curriculum of excellence.
“It’s very exciting, we are absolutely thrilled and delighted. We didn’t think our application would be successful so it was nice to get it.
“We had already done things ourselves in the garden with a general tidy-up, and the impact of that on the children was amazing. So it reinforced the need to enhance it further, hence the application.”
