A Mayfield woman ran an incredible 2013 miles last year to raise money in memory of her friend who died from a brain tumour in 2012.
Alison Pringle (41) raised £3,500 for Brain Tumour Action Scotland in memory of her friend Susan Green from Newtongrange.
Alison, a residential child care officer for Midlothian Council ran 40-50 miles every week, making up her mileage target with training and marathons in the UK and abroad.
She said: “It was really tiring I have to say. I pulled a muscle in September with 700 miles still to go so it was a bit of a nightmare.
“I was running the Perth Marathon, going very fast downhilll which I shouldn’t have, and I actually heard it pop. Looking back I should have stopped, but I wanted my medal!
“After that I had to run with supports on and take lots of pain killers. And I had to change my style of running, I basically had to run with one leg. I got used to it.”
