A performance tracking system has helped students at Dalkeith High achieve some of the best exam results on record at the school.
The new strategy has, according to headteacher Colin Gerrie, been a significant factor behind the improved attainment among pupils in S4 and S5.
He told the Advertiser: “We now track every student in S4 through to S6 on a monthly basis and have early intervention with parents if necessary. We have target grades that are agreed, but we also have estimated final grades on a monthly basis.
“If a pupil isn’t applying enough effort then a letter is automatically triggered home.
“As opposed to the traditional report card that goes home once a year, these kids are constantly getting feedback about where they are on the journey.”
Acknowledging the talent of his teachers, and paying tribute to the work ethic of his students, Mr Gerrie is delighted that the new system is already paying dividends.
But he will not be resting on his laurels.
