A Bonnyrigg teenager has been nominated for a Young First Aid Volunteer of the Year award.
The award was created by the St Andrew’s First Aid charity to celebrate a young volunteer who has made excellent use of their First Aid skills.
Shona Chalmers (16) was just seven when her father Alan suffered two heart attacks as well as angina attacks. This left a major impression on her.
Her relief when paramedics arrived to take over inspired her to take up First Aid, and this has resulted in her developing the confidence to cope in similar situations.
She recently put her First Aid skills to the test at a rugby match after a young boy collapsed with a neck injury.
