Members of the armed forces and their families are to benefit from discounted rates at sport and leisure centres across the county.
At the recent full council meeting, councillors agreed that veterans and their families should pay reduced fees.
For example, the new corporate rate will see the monthly charge for a Platinum membership go down from £42.20 to £34.10 for those eligible. And they will also no longer have to pay the joining fee of £27.05.
Provost Joe Wallace (SNP) welcomed this move. He said: “Midlothian was one of the first councils in Scotland to sign the Armed Forces Community Covenant to strengthen ties between the community and veterans.
“We feel that this is a small but important move to make sure armed forces personnel and their families moving to Midlothian enjoy the same benefits they do already in many other local authority areas.
“Our aim is to support veterans as much as we can.”
