A Speed Book Share event at Mayfield Library

Midlothian Libraries has won a prestigious national award from the Bookseller Industry Awards.

The council-run library service won ‘Library of the Year’ in the coveted awards, which were announced this week

Midlothian picked up Library of the Year for its strong children’s service and “hugely impressive” programme of events.

Commenting on the top award, Councillor Owen Thompson, cabinet member for libraries, said: “Our library staff work very hard throughout the year to make our libraries a great place to visit and pick up a book.

“There’s also a full programme of other events on from book groups to arts events to engage people of all age groups.

“Congratulations and well done to everyone involved in making our libraries one of the best in the UK.”
