Midlothian’s MP missed last week’s vote challenging housing benefit changes as he was on a “previously arranged overseas visit on official business”.
David Hamilton (Lab) said: “Under a long-standing House of Commons arrangement, a Government MP agreed not to cast a vote because I was unavoidably detained working elsewhere. We cancelled each other out and the outcome was unaffected.”
MPs voted by a majority of 26 to reject the Labour motion calling for the abolition of the “bedroom tax”.
