Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie has been accused of acting like “lord of the manor” by parking his Land Rover 4x4 in a disabled parking bay.

Political rivals of Mr Beattie (SNP), who is not a Blue Badge holder, were quick to criticise his actions after the silver vehicle was photographed in a car park at Midlothian Council’s headquarters in Dalkeith.

Labour group leader, Councillor Derek Milligan believes Mr Beattie should have known it was a disabled bay.

Mr Beattie admits using the space but claims he did not notice it was for disabled drivers only.

He is furious that photographs of the Land Rover, clearly showing its number plate, have been circulated via social media.

He said: “I am of course sorry for failing to notice that I had parked in a disabled bay.

“That said, I am frankly shocked that elected politicians would be so irresponsible as to publish the personal details of a political opponent – particularly since my personal vehicles have previously been the subject of well-publicised attacks.”
