An education project, which tasked Midlothian schoolchildren to becoming pop music moguls, has won a national award.

The M Factor was top of the pops in the Scottish Government Delivering Excellence category at the Cosla excellence awards recently.

The education team received their award from First Minister Alex Salmond who said the M Factor was an outstanding example of excellence in education – an innovative project where teachers become learners and learners become teachers.

Education spokesman Councillor Bob Constable (SNP) said: “This is a wonderful achievement in recognition of a truly creative project that inspired literally hundreds of our primary age children to tackle everything from writing songs to producing videos.”
