Pupils will miss out after county secondary schools chose not to introduce new Higher qualifications in key subjects, it has been claimed.
Planned to tie in with the successful replacement for Standard Grades – National 4 and 5 qualifications, new-look Highers will begin in the new school year.
Schools in neighbouring East Lothian, for example, are offering the new Highers in the key subjects of English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, Modern Studies, Geography and History.
However, it has emerged that half the departments in all six Midlothian secondary schools have agreed not to introduce the reforms this year.
