A Midlothian initiative has been unveiled to create a special online Roll of Honour for those who died in the First World War.

With funding from the Scottish Library and Information Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, a record will be made of all First World War memorials in the county.

The Midlothian Remembers project is being co-ordinator by the Volunteer Centre Midlothian and the Midlothian Council Local Studies.

Volunteers are required to research the names on the war memorials. There will be an opportunity to research county archives as well as making visits to Scotland’s People Centre in Edinburgh to help shed light on the many lives that were affected during the course of the war.
