At a recent meeting in Dalkeith (March 25), Midlothian Council agreed to mark the 30th anniversary of the miners’ strike by recognising the “devastating impact” it had on local communities.
Supporting a motion proposed by Provost Joe Wallace (SNP), elected members unanimously agreed to commend the “many dedicated people” who helped and supported local miners and their families in dealing with the impact of imposed Tory policy.
Also marking the anniversary, Midlothian Labour members (pictured) have pressed the Scottish Government for a review into potentially unfair convictions handed out to miners during the strike.
