Green-fingered gardening enthusiasts from Midlothian will be bringing all their horticultural skills to the fore this month.

Members of Penicuik Horticultural Society and gardeners at the Midlothian Community Hospital’s community garden will be hoping their mini gardens will make a big impact on the judges at Gardening Scotland 2014.

The horticulturalists have designed a plot, measuring just one metre square, which will be entered into the annual Pallet Garden Challenge.

Last year Penicuik took first place in the competition’s group planter section.

The contest is organised by the Scottish Gardeners’ Forum with the Penicuik and Bonnyrigg entries up against groups and schools from across Scotland.
