A procedural error by social workers automatically downgraded Midlothian Council’s fostering service in its latest Care Inspectorate report.
The care and support section of the May review was classed as “weak” while other areas were considered “good” and “very good”.
Dr Mary Smith, director of education, communities and economy, told the Advertiser that, despite criticism of the Care Inspectorate in the past, this was a time to “hold our hands up” to a council procedural error.
She explained: “We made a procedural error in the fostering process of one case and that automatically downgraded us to ‘weak’.
