A housing developer’s investigation work at Dalkeith’s Newbattle Abbey Crescent has ruffled the feathers of local residents.
Bellway Homes is carrying out work on areas of open ground adjacent to existing housing on the Crescent.
The purpose, it says, is to determine whether or not ground conditions would permit a proportion of the land to be developed for private housing.
Patricia Frankland (50), a Crescent resident and member of the Esk Valley Trust, said: “This area is hugely significant historically and environmentally and should be protected from any development. This is particularly important with all the other development work in the area due to the Borders Railway and increased housing.”
