A spiritual fair is to be held tomorrow (Thursday) in an attempt by Newtongrange Parish Church to re-connect with the local community.

Scott Brennan (46) was commissioned by the church to carry out a spirituality audit which led to today’s spiritual fair at the Wheelhouse Cafe in Newtongrange.

Scott explained more about the audit, which saw him interview 40 local people.

He said: “I discovered the gala makes it tick and there is still a strong sense of responsibility in the village. You don’t get that everywhere these days.

“I also discovered that people think they have a spiritual side but that are not interested in church. People believe in things like ghosts and life after death.

“So there is that combination between community and the spiritual, and I thought, what can I do that has both these elements?

“I think most people believe in something, they just don’t know what. And they want to ask questions but they don’t know where to ask.”
