The improvement of the Christmas tree lights in Newtongrange has been welcomed by the local community council.

Thanks to Newbattle Parish Church, Newtongrange Community First and Midlothian Council, the village has an improved festive appearance this year, with the big switch-on event taking place on Saturday from 3.30pm.

Speaking at last week’s Newtongrange Community Council meeting, chairman Jason Ferry welcomed the improvements, which include a new tree and base for it outside Newbattle Pool as well as better lights.

He said: “I think this is just what the village needed.”
