Resurrected plans to establish a Business Improvement District in the Penicuik area have taken a major step forward.

A ‘reasonably attended” meeting took place with a number of local firms present, SNP councillor Derek Rosie said.

Updating Penicuik and District Council, he added that the next step was being establishing a steering group with support from Midlothian Council.

Councillor Rosie continued that funding, awarded to the BIDs project when it was first mooted a number of years ago, was still in place.

“There are probably enough funds to employ a development officer to liaise with the businesses and push the BIDs forward. The businesses will have to vote on it,” he added.
