The Catholic church in Penicuik has set up a foodbank in response to the growing number of people requesting assistance.
As a pilot scheme, small bags of essential supplies will be given out on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm.
Sacred Heart RC priest Fr John McInnes explained the church established the foodbank after he had witnessed an increase in the number of people calling to the priest’s house for help.
“We decided to do this after an increase in the number of people, casual callers, turning up at the door. We have heard this anecdotally nationally,” he said.
