A Penicuik man, responsible for internal security at the Grand Hotel when the IRA bombed it, has written his autobiography.
Allan Neil (74), who now lives in West Sussex, has received favourable reviews to “Abo: A Wee Boy’s Progress”.
“There is a lot of personal stuff including how I was in charge of internal security at the Grand Hotel. It was a bit of a low point and I learned how to handle being to blame,” he explained.
The book recalls his childhood in Penicuik and Milton Bridge as “Wullie Neil’s boy”, his working life on leaving school at 14, and his career in the police.
Mr Neil was born in a flat in Angle Park, Penicuik, and attended Penicuik School before his family moved to nearby Milton Bridge where he went to Glencorse Primary.
