Midlothian Council is to hold a pre-determination planning meeting to hear the case for and against an open cast mine at Cauldhall Moor, near Penicuik.
The meeting will be held in Penicuik Town Hall today (Thursday, November 7) at 10am.
The now defunct Scottish Coal lodged the original planning application for the operation.
The new applicant Hargreave Surface Mining Ltd is looking to extract up to 10 million tonnes of coal over a 12 year period.
