Plans to make Penicuik a more attractive place to shop and visit are taking shape with the creation of a Business Improvement District.

The BIDs proposals are being considered by a steering group made up of local business people.

Steering group chairman and local businessman George Donaldson said: “While we’re still in the early stages, it is clear from seeing other schemes in action that this idea has worked really well elsewhere.

“There are substantial sums of money available for ideas which make Penicuik a more attractive place to shop, visit, and do business.”

The concept, which has been imported from Canada and the US, involves businesses working together with the council and other organisations and investing collectively in improvements which benefit them and the wider Midlothian economy.
