Penicuik vet Romain Pizzi

A vet from Penicuik has told how his specialist skills as a surgeon have taken him all around the world treating exotic animals.

Romain Pizzi, a Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) vet, was speaking at the International Penguin Conference in Bristol recently.

He told how he had performed delicate endoscopic operations on penguins from Edinburgh Zoo.

The inquisitive nature of the Gentoo penguins often gets the better of the little creatures.

Over the years he has seen them swallow anything from sticks, twigs, stones, gloves, children’s socks, lollipop sticks, batteries, a broken broom handle and coins.
