More than 50 people have now been arrested during the first fortnight of a festive campaign to keep people safe in Midlothian.

Operation Tinsel, which is ongoing throughout the Lothians and Scottish Borders Division until January 5, is targeting domestic abuse, drink-driving, antisocial behaviour, violence and licensing issues.

High-visibility patrols have been deployed across the area to engage with the public, offer reassurance and tackle a number of crimes that are typically reported during the holiday season.

As a result, there have been 14 arrests for domestic abuse, 18 arrests for antisocial behaviour and 16 arrests for violence.
