A St David’s High School student has been hailed a “hero” after saving an almost unconscious man’s life just a week after learning first aid.

Ryan Kearney (16) was with friend Sean Devine (17) driving home towards Mayfield when they came across a man slumped at a bus stop.

With the help of another passer-by, the teenagers put their newly-learnt first aid skills to the test.

Ryan said: “The man on the phone passed his mobile to us because the person on the other end of the phone was telling him to put the other man in the recovery position and I’m not sure he knew what that was.

“I knew how to do it because it was part of my training.”

While the emergency services stayed on the line for updates of the man’s condition, Sean was keeping the man warm and offering reassurance.
