A former teacher believes that her husband would be in a nursing home but for the support she receives from Woodburn Day Care Club.
Dalkeith resident Paula Sapietis (73) claims that the club helped her move from working with children and young people with additional needs to becoming a full time carer to Zigi (90).
Her husband of 20 years suffers from macular degeneration, an eye condition that leads to the gradual loss of central vision.
As his health began to deteriorate, Paula was suddenly deluged with paperwork.
She explained: “I was under an avalanche of not knowing which way to turn. I knew I had the strength but felt terribly overwhelmed by the encroaching pressure on me.”
