The first phase of work to transform the stableyard at Dalkeith Country Park is expected to get under way in a couple of weeks.

Ahead of the £3.5 million redevelopment, the Buccleuch Estates is to hold an open day on Saturday from noon to 5pm.

The aim is to show the local community the plans, to guage public opinion and to hear what local people would like to see on the 1000-acre site.

Visitor services manager Iain Herbert, who has held management posts at the Scottish Whisky Heritage Centre, the Falkirk Wheel and Royal Yacht Britannia, said: “We are definitely listening to points of view, ideas and thoughts.

“There have been some really helpful comments on Facebook.”

The stable yard area will close to the public when contractors will move on site on September 14.
