Scottish Water has now confirmed that an ‘in spate’ Penicuik burn is not the result of excessive rainfall.
Last month the Advertiser reported that the Dean Burn has been fast flowing since January with the cause likely to be groundwater.
Midlothian Council disputed this and carried out its own investigation.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We understand that the additional flow of clean water going into the burn is the result of safety work we are carrying out at Glencorse reservoir.”
