A young Roslin girl has raised more than £800 for charity after encouraging family and friends to take part in a seven-mile sponsored walk.

Mhairi Muir (9) was joined by her sister Grace (5), parents Susan and Ian, grandparents May and William Hastings and other friends walking from Penicuik to the Marie Curie Hospice at Fairmilehead on Saturday.

The challenging venture was held in memory of Mhairi and Grace’s uncle Alistair (Aky) Hunter who died last year.

The money raised will be shared evenly between Marie Curie and Richmond’s Hope, a charity which offers bereavement counselling to children.

Susan explained that her brother-in-law Alistair had been receiving terminal illness care at Marie Curie prior to his death.
