The sun was shining on Newtongrange last Saturday as the parade made its way through the village for the 101st children’s gala day.
Huge crowds turned out for the village’s big day, with fun and games in Newtongrange Park following the crowing of the gala king and queen.
Denise Gillies,chairman of the gala committee said “Newtongrange Gala took off without a hitch despite the early morning inclement weather. Luckily just like previous years the sun eventually loomed over Newtongrange and very soon crowds swelled as visitors from adjacent communities and further afield joined everybody and their granny from Newtongrange to watch one of the most prestigious gala events in Midlothian.
“The atmosphere in Newtongrange Park was buzzing and the youngsters in their finery did their parents and our community proud and I think like me the rest of the gala committee were watching through teary eyes.”
