A former Midlothian swimming coach is leading calls for the council to provide adult swimming lessons at its new competition-standard pool.

Cameron Scott, of Broomieknowe Park in Bonnyrigg, has been a regular user of the Lasswade Centre pool since it opened last July.

The former instructor at Newbattle Swimming Pool told the Advertiser of his surprise at discovering that there are no lessons available for adults at the centre.

He said: “There are lots of elderly people using the sauna but not the pool because they can’t swim. Loanhead, Penicuik and Newbattle pools all have adult swimming lessons but not Lasswade. I feel sorry for all those people who missed out on lessons when they were young. There is a gap that needs to be filled here.”
