Woodburn footballer Steven Anderson gave his mum the perfect birthday present by scoring for St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final.

While fans of the Perth side were in dreamland after winning their first major honour by beating Dundee United 2-0 at Parkhead, nobody in the stadium was prouder than Steven’s mum Marion Burnett, who turned 50 on the day of the cup final –May 17.

Marion, a support worker for vulnerable people, who was at the game with Steven’s wife in the VIP lounge, told the Advertiser: “I’m very proud. I started crying when he scored, I was overcome with emotion. It was just so amazing. And I broke my shoes jumping up and down.

“I didn’t think he would score on my birthday in the cup final, especially given that he is a defender, it was the perfect present.”

Steven(28) added: “Obviously I’m absolutely delighted.

“It’s a moment I will never forget. And I’m just delighted we won in the end.”
