Local employees will play vital roles at the new Morrisons supermarket when it opens its doors in Dalkeith for the first time on Monday (June 15).
Managing the in-store bakery, where up to 48 varieties of bread will be baked from scratch each day, is Woodburn resident Bob Kerr.
Born and bred in Dalkeith, he left school to become a bakery apprentice in Woodburn before moving to Safeway in 1996.
He said: “It’s great to be coming back to work in my own bakery in Dalkeith. I’m really looking forwards to bringing my 23 years experience to bear to make great bread in store for our customers.”
Customers looking for choice cuts of meat will be pleased to see another well-known face when the butchery counter starts trading.
Mark Laidlaw, who has lived in Woodburn since he was a boy, started his 30-year-career as a butcher’s apprentice in Leith.
