A campaign to stop houses being built between Kippielaw and Easthouses has been backed by Dalkeith Community Council.
The ‘Save Kippielaw’ group presented its case to members at a recent meeting, when leader Stephen Liddell outlined his fears.
He is worried that the building of 60 to 150 houses in fields between the two communities would create a continuous housing scheme which would join Dalkieth and Kippielaw to Easthouses and Mayfield.
He believed that Walker Homes’ plans, which are laid bare in the proposed new Midlothian Local Development Plan, would “destroy 18 acres of prime agricultural greenfield land.”
He told last week’s meeting: “People are opposed to the idea of building another private scheme to be used as commuter dormitory for Edinburgh, which is no help to people who are on the housing waiting list.”
