A couple of weeks ago I took advantage of a lovely autumn day to video the French Prisoner of War memorial in Penicuik.
The monument, sited in the Valleyfield area of the town, was built in memory of the 300 POWs who died during the Napoleonic War.
Penicuik had three separate prisoner of war depots between 1803 until 1814. The monument was erected in 1830 by Alexander Cowan, owner of the Valleyfield paper mills.
