In the build-up to the big day, a week of events starts with a fancy dress parade and It’s a Knockout in Newtongrange Welfare Park from 11.30am on Sunday.

On Monday, the Silver Band is in concert at the Dean Tavern from 7pm. A children’s disco and magic show takes place on Tuesday at 6pm at Newbattle Community Centre.

On Wednesday, a family quiz and disco night will be held at the Dean Tavern from 7pm. A treasure hunt takes place at Newtongrange Welfare Park from 7pm on Thursday. On Friday evening from 7pm a full dress rehearsal for the gala day takes place at Newbattle High School.

Then on Saturday the gala day itself is at Newtongrange Welfare Park, preceded by a cavalcade and parade through the village from 11am.
