A Penicuik woman is to go on the transplant waiting list for a new kidney – 14 years after her mum underwent the same op due to a genetic condition.
Kayleigh Hume (22) was diagnosed with Alport Syndrome as a teenager but until now kept the hereditary complaint at bay with medication.
However, four weeks ago Kayleigh, who lives in Cuiken Terrace, suffered renal failure and now receives dialysis three times a week.
Kayleigh can be at the Royal Infirmary for up to five hours at a time for the treatment.
